Bait Choice

Selecting the bait best suited to your angling style!

Bait Choice

Selecting the bait best suited to your style of angling is essential and often over looked by many anglers. Many choosing the latest advertised bait that’s being marketed on social media or in one of the many carp magazines. Often ignoring what has proven to be a successful bait in preference of the latest bait.

At the carp shows and speaking with anglers from far and wide, a commonly used sentence is Trigga caught me loads of carp including my personal bests. When quizzed why they stopped using Trigga the answer is often the same, I fancied a change or I believed the hype of the latest advertised wonder bait. Now I find this hard to understand, the hardest part of angling is the last meter in the water. Firstly presenting a good rig followed by a bait carp will readily accept as food source. So why move away from a successful bait ? A quality bait will never blow, it will only get more effective the more is applied.

So choosing the bait best suited to your personal angling. Be honest with yourself on what type of angling you do. Are you the type of angler who jumps around several waters, the type of angler doing short sessions or a campaign angler on one water at a time ?

If you fish several waters and unlikely to return for a few weeks between sessions to the same venue then a quality bait with a little more attraction is best suited. We would suggest either the CO-DE, Trigga Pineapple & N-Butyric or Big Fish Mix: Salmon, Caviar & Black Pepper. All based on premium quality base mixes which carp with readily accept as food source but with slightly higher inbuilt liquid attraction levels.

Short session angler, employing match style tactics of little and often is the best approach and keeping mobile with a more high attract bait. Both Cream Cajouser and Tecni Spice being bird food base mixes that leak soluble liquid attraction more easily which in turn will draw carp down to your spots to investigate. Keeping your spots topped up regularly is the key along with using the matching bag mixes soaked in the matching activator.

Campaign angler, choosing a food source bait is the biggest edge and applying sensibly over time is the key to long term success. Both Trigga and Trigga ice have stood the test of time as 2 of the most effective long term campaign baits. Time and time again being the downfall of many of the largest carp and barbel with many being caught several times on the same bait. A true sign of a quality bait.

Bait sizes, this is personal choice but being different to other anglers can often prove to be a big edge. If small baits are commonly used then go with a larger bait or vice versa.

Also many anglers like to supplement there free offerings with particles, this can be an edge but if you are fishing lakes or rivers with a big head of nuisance fish the chances are the majority of the particles will be picked of before they get to the bottom. Keeping bait in your swim is essential for when carp do arrive so if this is the case go in with larger baits.

Think carefully before choosing what to use, what works for one angler may not be the choice for another.
