More Than Just a Boilie!

Mark Watson giving you an insight into a season on the Big Fish Mix

More Than Just a Boilie!

Over my 25 years of carp fishing there have been many things come and go with very few things standing the test of time. One that has is The Big Fish Mix which has a very long list of big carp from all over the world to its credit.  Early this year at The Northern Angling Show I was lucky enough to be invited to see the Nutrabaits factory for myself by Richard Hughes (the owner) and it was the Big Fish Mix that I was primarily interested in. Having used it before many years ago and caught a lot of fish with it so was keen to have another go.  Even more so after seeing the big steamers now in use at Nutrabaits HQ.  I know how much more nutritious my own veg is at home that I steam so steaming boilies is a no brainer, especially when you see all the goodness that leaches out of baits during the boiling process.

The syndicate I regularly fish is a very large gravel pit so I like to put a lot of smell in the water to attract the carp into my swim.  Steamed BFM with the salmon, caviar and black pepper combo was my choice and the first thing I did when I got the bait home was to test the leakage for myself.  I got two pint pots of water and in one I dropped 3 BFM boilies and in the other I dropped 3 of my home rolled bait to compare.  Even though Id been catching and had confidence in my own bait the leakage on the BFM blew it away.  I knew then I needed to get on the bank with it.

One of my first sessions was a two night session on the big pit and my standard approach was a couple of kilo of 18mm freebies with either matching or white pop-ups.  The first night produced a 23lb mirror but I did feel I could catch more elsewhere on the lake.  I moved to the other side of the lake to a swim I know well and dispatched the rigs to a bar about 100 yards along with a couple of Kilo of BFM.  By packing up time the following day Id banked another 3 carp to mid 20s which simply confirmed what I already knew.  That the BFM is simply a fantastic boilie.

Ive since had quite a few carp using the BFM considering the limited time Ive had to fish which has including fish to just over 40lb.  The 40 was part of an 8 fish catch which also included a 35lb linear over three nights.  For that session I got through 10k of boilies, half of which was put though the chopper and turned into crumb.  I also added generous quantities of the BFM and the Trigga booster liquids.  This worked a treat and is something well worth giving a go.

To conclude, my confidence in the BFM is sky high and that is exactly what I want and need in a bait.  Knowing that my bait is not the cause of not catching allows me to concentrate on the other aspects, usually location and timing.  Im looking forward to many more BFM captures to come.
