With the massive advancements in preserving technology over the last 8 years, the quality of our shelf-life’s have never been better, being the same premium quality as the matching freezer baits. The same ingredients are used in the production of each, fished side by side the results have been consistently the same time and time again.
Take one look at the many fisheries around the U.K. and Europe who now stock our shelf-life baits as house baits, each fishery seeing massive weight gains of the carp whilst dominating captures, with our highly nutritious and protein rich bait ranges. The sky is the limit what these carp will reach in weight over the coming years.
We don’t hide behind silly words like stabilised baits etc. we use the highest quality human food grade preservatives in the production of our shelf-life baits, which in turn give you the highest quality finished shelf-life baits available.
- We hear stories of shelf-life baits being totally different in appearance and texture, we can’t speak for other bait companies, but that’s not the case with ours, all being identical.
- Then the other we hear anglers mention is that shelf-life baits don’t breakdown, we can’t speak for other bait brands, but ours have the same breakdown times.

This is easy for you to test at home, simply place your chosen baits in a jug of water, first of all you will see the leakage of our baits, releasing soluble attraction, then check every 12 hours and you will find ours breakdown at the same rate as the matching freezer baits.
- Another crazy theory we have heard, a once respected angler quote was that shelf-life baits kill carp, this being the most ridiculous statement we have ever heard. Let’s break this statement down, first of all, the preservatives used in our bait production are human food grade, we assume the same as the majority of bait companies use in the production of baits. Preservatives that are used daily in everyday foods you eat such as bread, pastries etc. The human food industry is highly regulated and if any danger to health then you can be sure they wouldn’t be used in production. The same preservatives are used in pellets, that are used to rear fish, I’m certain fish breeders across the globe wouldn’t be putting their livelihood at risk.
- Give it some thought, well over 90% of carp baits used on the majority of waters over the last 40 years have been shelf-life, where’s all the carp that these baits kill. If the statement is true then we would have very few carp residing in our waters! instead we see carp growing to record weights and healthier than ever before.
- Lastly it will come as no surprise that this so called angler is associated with a bait brand, that has solely manufactured freezer baits until recently. Doesn’t take much working out where his statement comes from, certainly not FACT, more hoping to drum extra business up.

We put the same question to the guys working in our factory, what they use in their fishing, given they can choose either. The resounding favourite being shelf-life’s. Why ? Because they see no difference and prefer the convenience of shelf-life baits.
Next up we quizzed several of our team who have been long time carp anglers, several carp fishing well over 40 years, the resounding answer being they never thought they would make the change, after starting out using exclusively freezer baits, but the majority’s answer being they have now swapped over to shelf-life in almost all of their angling.
Why? - They, like most anglers have done tests and found carp love them, the quality being the same, breakdown again being the same and as for side by side and year on year results have seen no difference in amount of fish caught. The resounding answer being the majority have now swapped over to shelfies due to convenience and not wasting unused bait at the end of a session. We appreciate some fisheries prefer freezer baits and respect their choice, they need to take a balanced view of what’s being fed to their fish and in most cases cannot control who’s putting what in their lakes. Not all bait companies focus on quality contrary to marketing.
So do you still prefer a freezer bait in your angling, have you been brought up using shelf-life baits or have you made the move over to shelf-life baits?
- Freezer Baits: Don’t worry, freezer baits are still available in all our ranges and we have no plans on stopping the production.
