Single Digit Solubility

As we enter the next three or four months of coldwater tactics let me try and give some hints and tips that work for me during this historically slow time. The first thing, which I think is important is what do I class as coldwater carping? In simple terms it’s when the water temperatures are in single digits. And if this year is anything to go by it’s not until we reached the end of October that this occurred.

Now I have written many times recently about oleoresins and the olfactory system of carp being the key to induce a bite. This is important but the quickest way to achieve this is by affecting the environment around the carp. This means in layman’s terms bait and attractors need to work in water and this means solubility is key to success. I have always shied away from any oil-based carrier of attraction during these cold conditions. The one glaring omission to this is I do use essential oils for attraction. However they are in miniscule amounts compared to my other liquids. Now having said all of this how can one liquid affect another and more importantly, how can we apply it in a fishing sense. The great news is that Nutrabaits have some superb liquids that make solubility issues a thing of the past.

My number one staple liquid is the dedicated liquid booster. The Trigga Ice is my chosen boilie and it makes perfect sense to use the dedicated liquid booster to go with this. To this I add 5 drops of the Garlic Essential oil and shake vigorously. A little preparation is needed a couple of days before I go fishing to make sure the initial introduction of freebies are ‘pimped’ accordingly. I take the freezer baits or shelf life and put 5kg into a bucket, then I pour a 500ml bottle of the prepared liquid booster over the contents, shake and then leave for a good 24 hours. Simplicity itself and something that doesn’t requires too much work. Of course, this is for my loose feed only and the next thing I do is work on my hook baits.

Now I have long been known for bespoke hook baits, but it is all based on keeping the bites coming. However, the hidden gem within our liquid range is the Bait Soak Complex. My chosen one is the Amino Complex which I haven’t spoken about in the past. Similar to the liquid booster I add a few drops, four or five, of the Garlic Essential Oil to a pot and shake. Now you can simply leave your hook baits in our own pots although I prefer to use clear plastic ones so I know how much liquid is in the pot and also how many hook baits too. The soaking of your hook baits in the complexes can be for weeks, months or even years. They won’t go off and once they are totally saturated the leakage of liquid from the baits draw the carp towards them.

Now I don’t want to change this piece into a scientific lesson, but the leakage of liquid into another different liquid, the lake water, creates a change in the pH of the lake. This is what attracts the carp to investigate. By the use of garlic which is rich in oleoresins, the carp’s olfactory system is agitated and causes them to ‘home’ in immediately on the hookbait. A win win all round.
So to summarise, the most important part of using the Nutrabaits liquid range is decision making based on what is happening on your lake. Being differed can give extra carp but I would emphasise that during the colder months using tried and tested liquids rather than experimenting would be my advice. Fortunately for all of us, Nutrabaits liquid range make that easy.
