The regulations for fishing bait across the U.K. and Europe make it compulsory for bait manufacturers to list every ingredient used on the packaging, along with a critical analysis of the bait. This is being policed by DEFRA in the U.K., and other agencies across Europe. Regular checks on bait including factory visits will be carried out over the coming months and years. This will clear up our sport, giving you when purchasing, the information of what you are considering using. In addition, this gives the fisheries, the knowledge of what anglers are feeding into their lakes.
Manufacturers who are not displaying a full list of ingredients and analysis, which matches the contents within the product, will be given large fines. This has already been enforced across Europe, with bait companies being forced to close, and stockists also receiving large fines. So how do you check what’s in your bait of choice ?
A list of ingredients should be clearly displayed on the packaging, giving you a clear insight before purchasing, like all the food we buy in supermarkets on a daily basis.
You may be surprised to find that the contents of some bait manufacturers are inferior to the quality advertised. Check before you buy!!!
