Making Changes

Sometimes a change in Tactics is all that’s needed

Something I don’t like to do personally is make bait changes in my angling. I’ve been using Trigga Pineapple & N-Butyric in its various forms successfully across the U.K. and Europe for over the last 10 years. Previously to that I had been using Big Fish Mix since its introduction way back in the early 90’s and before then home rolled Ener-Vite. So as you can see, over that 35 plus years there’s not been much change. If it’s working why make a change ?

But last year after fishing a Cambridgeshire water Grenville’s with little success, it was time to go back to the drawing board. Something I don’t like to do. Trigga Pineapple & N-Butyric has served me well everywhere I’ve fished with amazing results but for some reason the carp in Grenville’s weren’t too keen. WHY ? the flavour, was it N-Butyric that their not too keen on or more likely me putting it in the wrong places lol.

I’m in a lucky position in that we supply all the ingredients that go into the house bait which is rolled on site by lake owner Paul. This being a quality spicy fishmeal bait, it soon became apparent they love the spicy edge of this bait and perhaps preferring over all others ?

Paul’s house bait has become a big favourite with members and the lake sees 100’s of kilos each week which the carp readily accept as a food source.

So looking at the Nutrabaits range it was either Trigga Ice or Big Fish Mix. I know Big Fish Mix has accounted for numerous big carp on the lake along with all our other baits, but giving them the Trigga Ice was going to be the one for me. This being a premium quality spicy fishmeal with the natural attraction of the Trigga Ice package. Would the changes work or would I be regretting deserting a bait I have 100% confidence in using anywhere.

Well the rest is history now, over the next 3 sessions on the Ice and numerous carp later, it’s clear it’s the spicy edge they crave.

Should I have made the change earlier ?

If I’d stuck with Trigga  Pineapple & N-Butyric would I have had the same success ?

We will never know, but one things for sure the remaining of 2024 on the lake it will be Trigga Ice that’s in my bait bucket.
